DECISION MAKING
Making decisions and memory in active learning - what am I going to do? (Remi J)
- During a physical performance, perception allows the brain to interpret signals from the environment and body to establish an understanding of the current situation - first phase of active learning process
- The second phase is to integrate perception to the current situation
- By accessing memories of related past experiences the performer can decide on a course of action
- One major contributing factor to decision making is what the performer already knows- is known as experience
- Practice training allows performer to build a store of experiences about how to perform successfully
- When this information is committed to long term memory it can be accessed for future performances
- Decision making is a complex process and establishing what to do in a situation is much more than just searching the long term memory for a similar situation and acting based on what was last performed
- Fatigue has effect on decisions made during physical performance –example- when fresh, a volleyball player may work hard to spike despite a poor set, but when fatigued same set may result in a simple tip over the net.
- The specific decision made in any given situation is usually the result of a wide variety of factors
Perceiving and decision making in volleyball: (Joseph O)
Decision making is one of the most crucial parts of becoming an autonomous player. Decision making is knowing weither to dig, set or spike and knowing when and where to move to hit the ball coming towards you. Decision-making can also be regarded as a problem-solving activity terminated by a solution deemed to be satisfactory. Decision Making is controlled by your frontal lobe in your brain.this part of the brain regulates decision making, problem solving and controls of purposeful behaviors consciousness and emotion.
